The story begins when the owner of the farm is about to kill a little pig. His daughter, an 8-year-old girl named Fern Arable, decides to stop the slaughter and thus begins raising the pig, whom she decides to name Wilbur.

Fern takes care of Wilbur every day with lots of love. However, because Mr. Arable fears that his daughter will become too attached to an animal that will be slaughtered, he sends Wilbur to the farm of Mr. Zuckerman, Fern’s uncle.

Wilbur continues to grow in his new home. However, he has no friends there and misses Fern. One fine day the spider Carlota appears, who becomes his friend.

Soon, Wilbur finds out that he is going to be put down. Then, his friend Carlota decides to save him by weaving the words “a pig” into his web. Mr. Zuckerman sees them and believes that a miracle has occurred. With the help of Templeton the rat they manage to write other messages. In this way, Wilbur manages to survive that day.

He is later taken to the country fair, where Carlota and Templeton are still writing words. Wilbur becomes increasingly popular and escapes certain death.

However, at the end of the fair the one who is about to die is Carlota. She entrusts Wilbur with her eggs and says goodbye to him. Wilbur takes care of them and several of Carlota’s children are born to them. Three of them stay with him and they all live happily ever after.
